Our capital city of Canberra is located in the Australian Capital Territory and is completely surrounded by the state of New South Wales. That’s how we found ourselves 10 minutes from the city but staying at Queanbeyan caravan park in NSW! It reminded us of Washington DC in the USA, where we were surprised to hearContinue reading “Australian War Memorial, Canberra and Bungendore”

The Gold Coast region
The Boyd Bay caravan park at Tweed Heads was a great base to meet up with friends and family around the Gold Coast region. This city straddles the 2 states of Queensland and New South Wales and 2 different local government areas which of course leads to some odd situations – not least when daylightContinue reading “The Gold Coast region”
The Sunshine Coast & Brisbane area
Our base camp at Mooloolaba Beach Holiday Park was great for exploring the Sunshine Coast…. walking distance to excellent shops – loved Think Pinq! plus the beach, marina and the Surf Life Saving Club for sundowners or lunch with friends Shauna and Allan. Two great day trips stand out; firstly our drive north along theContinue reading “The Sunshine Coast & Brisbane area”
The beautiful Fraser Coast region…
After leaving Hervey Bay for the Fraser Coast region, we made our base at Standown Park, a tranquil van park half way between Tin Can Bay and Gympie. Pam and Rod Elkington have built a mini paradise here and enjoy welcoming veteran visitors along with many other caravanners. Their gardens, kitchen and shared areas are delightful,Continue reading “The beautiful Fraser Coast region…”
More FNQ…
In our last post, the peacocks and bats in the tree above our caravan were making life difficult. All was resolved when a large goanna (aka barnie or perentie) took up residence in the tree, and apparently under our van when we were out. All arguments ceased – the male peacock still slept there eachContinue reading “More FNQ…”
Far North Queensland
Is anyone actually living in Victoria this winter?! Judging by the car licence plates in all the caravan parks, most Victorians are here in Far North Queensland enjoying the warm weather with us! Port Douglas has changed little since our last visit in May 2012 when we attended the wedding of Ginny’s niece, Stephanie and herContinue reading “Far North Queensland”
Morgan – our entry point to the fabulous Riverland…
Morgan was our first view of the mighty Murray River, just where it bends dramatically south. However we plan to follow the river east, using the fabulous free ferry trips to explore the Riverland region. The measurements of the different Murray River floods show that 1956 was a very bad year around here! Morgan isContinue reading “Morgan – our entry point to the fabulous Riverland…”
Elliston to Clare
Thanks to all of you who explained the South Australian sign “Stop creeping” to us – as in do not let your speed creep up over the limit! For our 3 days in Elliston, we stayed at the caravan park opposite the jetty which has lovely grassed sites, and a camp kitchen with a huge fire andContinue reading “Elliston to Clare”
Heading East – Day 1
Day 1 of our long awaited “Big Trip East” from our home in Western Australia went well – although maybe departing on April Fools Day could have been better planned! Driving through the Wheatbelt region is always nostalgic for us, as it is an area we both know and love. There is a straight section of roadContinue reading “Heading East – Day 1”
Living in a caravan – the power of reductionist theory
It is amazing how happy life can be in a small space once you simplify your ‘stuff’ and reduce it to what is really important. Our caravan is a baby 15 footer so every bit of space is used and I often return to a favourite book “The Not So Big House” for inspiration. SarahContinue reading “Living in a caravan – the power of reductionist theory”
